Mario Testino is a big fan of the beauty, richness and colours of Brazil. His cool, intimate photos have made him an icon of fashion photography. His fascination for Brazilian culture began when he was just 14, on a family holiday in Rio.
The sensuality and sexuality of the beaches of Rio de Janeiro left a deep impression on a young Mario Testino. Ever since, whether for business or pleasure, he's been a regular visitor to Rio.
Mario de Janeiro is a book that reveals the photographer's fascination for the culture, with shots of models like Gisele Bundchen and others with local adolescents on the beaches of Copacabana. The aim was to capture the essence of Rio, its people and its places. From the chaos of the city to the magic of the carnivals, the book is a visual poem dedicated to Rio.
Collaborators in the project include singers like Caetano Veloso, actress Regina Casé and model Gisele Bundchen.
The book goes on sale in December 2009.
