Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty from Suno are known for their printed textiles from Kenya. For the coming fall, the New York designer duo took inspiration from a child's outlook on the world. The line features elements of mystery and innocence, alongside more practical military uniforms, which seem to be a big feature of the fashion weeks we've been seeing.
The Suno catwalk saw a 'strong woman with a great sense of humor', according to Beatty, who while using various floral and graphic prints, presented a more serious, darker collection than usual. Structured, sophisticated outfits were made of wools and tweeds that complemented the brand's iconic multicolored prints. Flowers, polka-dots and stripes inspired by the illustrations of Shel Silverstein and Edward Gorey, as reflected also in the shoes designed in collaboration with Nicholas Kirkwood. Black and white trees with little people between the leaves were used to create two and three piece outfits.
Suno is a deeply imaginative, creative brand, not just in their exhuberant prints but also in their cuts. In their efforts to create a wearable collection, they managed to include some interesting shines, shapes and layers. Jackets are worn over jackets, with graphic knitted sweaters and simple cotton dresses teamed with structured masculine jackets.
