Mary chooses a theme, borrows the icons attached to it and digitalizes it to decorate her luxury, extremely surreal garments. The collection Mary Katrantzou presented to London Fashion Week followed the structured, colorful style of her previous shows, this time taking inspiration from everyday items such as those you find on your table at work...
Fall/winter 2012-13 is futuristic and geometrical for the London-based Greek designer, who created elaborate dresses in dramatic, structured silhouetes. The details are the work of the prestigious Parisian haute couture brand École Lesage. Experimenting with extremes, Katrantzou combined chiffon, knitted collars, satiny frills and red velvet with prints of items like yellow HB pencils with a pink eraser, phone books, watches, typewriters, cutlery and coat hangers. The fragments of everyday life come in a palette of rich colors: lilac, yellow, pink, blue, emerald and bright green. It's a marvellously intense collection that brings us diamond shapes, pronounced waists and striking volume in the shoulders and hips.
