Last Monday, Karl Lagerfeld presented his latest collection for Chanel at the fountains of Versailles Palace. The French brand's Cruise collection is a pastiche of trends, eras and icons - it's like meeting Marie Antoinette in her teens, on a Japanese cruise in the nineties.
Lagerfeld has combined raw and acid hip-hop with rococo details from the 18th century palace court and the sweet gothic style of Japanese lolitas. Prom party dresses in pastel tones combine with metallic platform trainers, colorful bob wigs, wide pants, flared shorts, gold details and modern textiles like denim alongside tweed suits. It's an explosion of ideas, creativity, fun and humor. For Chanel, more is more.
