German-born Lindbergh first studied painting, but made the jump to photography in 1971. And it was only in 1978 that he decided to move to Paris and become a fashion photographer.
He was one of the people behind the top model phenomenon that featured names like Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford and Stephanie Seymour.
