08/18/08 - Serious-looking actor James Franco is accompanied by the ‘Slave to Love’ theme sung by Roisin Murphy and Chris Doyle’s black and white photo, in the new ad for Gucci by Gucci for men... Do you want to see it?
Finally, it’s the long-awaited Gucci by Gucci for men ad starring James Franco. As always, Gucci didn’t disappoint with their TV ad – this time Frida Giannini and Patricia Buonanno wanted to monitor every single shot.
Filming was by Jan Wentz, director of the film The Porter, and photography was by Chris Doyle, well-known photography director for masterpieces like the film 2046 directed by Wong Kar Wai.
And the music? An amazing choice: a Brian Ferry theme sung by Roisin Murphy, the classic ‘Slave to Love’. James Franco proved a great choice too, perhaps because of his seriousness which gives an essential masculine touch.
The fragrance has striking wood notes and Cyprus essence mixed with bergamot and hints of tobacco. Examining its scent, it’s not surprising that they opted for a classic contrast of black and white, a metaphor for the fragrance itself. We’ll leave you with the long-awaited ad and the ‘making of’. Enjoy…
