The legendary film ‘The Wizard of Oz’ celebrates its 70th birthday, and Warner Bros wanted to pay it a lavish tribute. If there’s one symbol from the film, it’s Dorothy’s red shoes, the ones that brought her to the world of Oz.
Swarovski took the opportunity to sponsor the event, and to bring together the best and most famous shoe designers in the world to create their own reinterpretation of Dorothy’s shoes. The only condition was that they used Swarovski Crystallized crystals… Well, Dorothy’s shoes did stand out for their shiny crystals.
And the designers? Testoni, Abaeté, Alberta Ferretti, Betsey Johnson, Botkier, Christian Louboutin, Diane von Furstenberg, Giuseppe Zanotti, Jimmy Choo, L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani, Lisa Pliner, Manolo Blahnik, Moschino, Oscar de la Renta, Roger Vivier, Sergio Rossi, Stuart Weitzman, Tibi and Tuleh… A luxurious cast, isn’t it?
The official launch will take place in New York: on Saks’s Fifth Avenue shop windows and in a Designer Shoe Salon gala on the 4th of September.
After that, the shoes will do a tour of the U.S., finishing with an exhibit in the Bryant Park tents (during New York fashion week), and finally they will be auctioned to raise money for the Elizabeth Glaser Paediatric AIDS foundation. The whole idea is fascinating…
